Thanks to the generous support of Radio Christmas listeners in 2018 we have been able to help support the opening of a short-term Protection Home in Guatemala City for vulnerable children.

The home, named Casa Alexis, will now be able to care for children, young people and families who are at risk and can be rescued from the streets or those children in the mentoring programme who need some short-term support and help.

Street Kids Direct sponsors a project called Proyecto Alas, based in Talanga, Honduras.  The programme started last year to help reach vulnerable and street-connected children in Talanga, and recently has been loaned a house in the town in order to start a mentoring centre.

The centre "Casa Club" is currently going through some much-needed refurbishment as there was no running water, toilets or electrics.  The children got involved from the moment the house was offered to the group and have made it their own and have worked hard at helping to make it a pleasant environment for them to do their homework, play and get the support they need from their mentors.

The Proyecto Alas is a new project, currently operating under the World Gospel Mission structure and has received funds from Global Care to help with the basic running costs.

We are very pleased to partner with them and you can find out more about their work via their Facebook page.

Thanks to the monthly support of Street Kids Direct sponsors we have been able to put 12 young children into full-time nursery school.

The children used to spend each day on the streets in the notorious "La Terminal" in Guatemala City and were at risk of kidnap, hunger, disease and exploitation.

No they are safe in a caring nursery and our street team follow up with regular visits to ensure their attendance and keep them off the streets.

Thanks to Fulmer Infant School in the U.K. for their visit too the Radio Christmas studios in 2018.

We were very thankful to Russell, Joanna, Benjamin and Joseph Soden for their visit to Guatemala in December 2016.

Oli O´Neil is busy recording special School´s Hour shows for this December.

Have a look at last year's Radio Christmas studio in Cafe Africa, Amersham, U.K.

Some forty years after his death, Bing Crosby was hoping to take the much sought after Christmas Number One slot this year!

The Official Charts tells us more:

The re-worked version of the song, featuring Bing's original vocals backed by the London Symphony Orchestra, will be included on new album Bing At Christmas, out on November 22 and available to pre-order now.

The album being released via Decca records by widow Kathryn and their children, Harry, Mary and Nathaniel. Other newly-arranged songs on the collection include Winter Wonderland, It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, The Christmas Song and Little Drummer Boy, a collaboration with David Bowie recorded in September 1977, a month before Bing died.

Kathryn said of the record: "Hearing Bing’s voice with these completely new, beautifully recorded, orchestral accompaniments makes it seem as though he’s back after all these years. It’s magic."

Despite being credited as one of the best-selling songs in the world, including 1.05 million pure sales in the UK, White Christmas has never been a Christmas Number 1, peaking at Number 5 in the UK in December 1977.

Mariah Carey finally tops the US charts.

One of the most familiar festive songs "All I Want For Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey has made it to the number one spot in the US charts.

Mariah´s 25th anniversay edition has been released and when the song was first released in 1994 the song was released as an EP and not as a single, which meant that it could not be included in Billboard´s Hot 100.

The song was featured in the hit film Love Actually in 2003 and in December 2019 was the UKs most-streamed song on Spotify.

Carey, on hearing the news, tweeted fans and said "we did it" followed by a string of hapy emojis.
